Beautiful and varied circular hiking route through the forest communities of the Leiningerland.
The Leininger hiking trail can be started in any of the towns along the way. In any case, the hiker will find a well-marked route that, if enough hiking stamina is available, leads mainly through the southern Leiningerland over a total length of 18.6 km.
Companions along the way include the ancestral castle of the Leininger Counts in Altleiningen or the former Augustinian canon monastery in Höningen and the St. Jakob's Church found there, which is one of the oldest buildings in the Palatinate region. Near Wattenheim, hikers pass Celtic burial mounds and not far from there, encounter the so-called "Nine Stones," presumably an ancient tribunal site. At times, the hiking route also follows an old Roman road.
PAY ATTENTION! - Campaign for respectful coexistence in nature
- Fire & smoking - Making fire, smoking, and grilling are strictly prohibited in the forest and must be absolutely avoided! Fires and thus extensive damage to nature and wildlife can only be prevented this way.
- Be considerate - Always behave foreseeably, friendly, and respectfully towards everyone you meet on the way.
- Nature conservation - Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest at dusk at the latest to not disturb the rhythm of nocturnal animals.
- Picnic & trash - Remember a trash bag for the way and take waste home again. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
- Leash dogs - Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

Roadbook
In Altleiningen, from the parking lot, go past the school and the 20-pipe fountain up Burgbergweg to Altleiningen Castle, then continue west over Tränkwoog into the Rotbach valley to Hetschmühle. The further route of the hiking trail passes the Wattenheim festival site "Unter den Linden" as well as the former forest tavern "Waldesruh", then crosses the A6 and reaches the burial mounds in the Wattenheim district. The Leininger hiking trail then leads to the "Lauberhof", an old clearing, underpasses the A6 and follows parallel to the Wattenheim forest road. Below the "Red Bridge" the trail reaches its westernmost point, turns towards Hertlingshausen and finds a special landmark at the Eckbach spring. From there, it goes into a residential area, overcomes a rise, leaves the old quarry on the left, and enters the Frauental. From there, the trail leads to the Naturfreundehaus "Rahnenhof". From the Naturfreundehaus, it now heads towards the monastery village Höningen. Along the Eckbach, follow the eastern outskirts of Hertlingshausen past the "Neue Sauhäuschen", then descend to the foot of Kahlenberg and after reaching the Kirchheim valley, cross the Eckbach. From there, the trail goes in switchbacks to the heights of the Leuchtenberg slope, and anyone feeling like it can take a detour to the forest nature trail of the Altleiningen community. From Höningen, the Leininger hiking trail heads to the "Bildstock" in Altleiningen, along the foot of Zimmerberg and finally back to the starting point.
