The Legend Path is a 4.5 km long hiking trail around the 583 m high Kottmar with information boards explaining ten legends associated with the Kottmar mountain. The legend world of Kottmar includes, for example, the legend of the wolf pits, the crystal coffin, and the gold cellar. The circular route is easy to hike despite slight altitude differences. Several viewpoints on the trail offer views of the Upper Lusatian Highlands as well as the Iser, Jeschken, and Zittau mountains.
Set out on a discovery tour through a piece of Upper Lusatia, not only to let your imagination run free but also to find peace and relaxation in beautiful nature.
Author’s recommendation
A small snack or a break-time refreshment should not be missing from your backpack. Unfortunately, there is no option to stop for refreshments along the way.
Near the 5th legend panel (The Legend of the Wolf Pits) is the highest of the total 3 Spree springs. The spring structure was built in 1921 by the LUSATIA association.

The start of the Legend Path is possible at several points. Starting points are the hiking parking lot at the Kottmarhäuser and the Spree spring parking lot at the Lange Gasse ascent in the Walddorf district.Roadbook

For the route to the parking lot at the Kottmarhäuser
- Coming from Oderwitz, follow the B96 to Eibau. Straight ahead to the intersection at the country inn and hotel "Zum Hirsch." Follow the signs and turn right onto Obercunnersdorfer Straße towards Obercunnersdorf. Continue straight to Kottmarhäuser. Just before Kottmarschenke (on the right), turn sharply left onto Kottmarhäuser and immediately take the first entrance on the right to the Kottmarhäuser parking lot.

Coming from Obercunnersdorf, follow Eibauer Straße to Kottmarhäuser. Before Kottmarschänke (on the left), turn right onto Turmweg and immediately left to the parking lot.
For the route to the Spree spring parking lot in Walddorf
- Coming from Ebersbach, follow the B96 to Eibau. Pass the "Bio- Blumenhäusel am Kottmar" and turn left at the next intersection towards Walddorf (see signs Kottmar/Spreequelle). Keep right at the fork and stay on Langer Gasse. After about 1 km, take the left turn onto Bierweg. This leads directly to the Spree spring parking lot.
