Since its incorporation in 1972, Wollmesheim has been a district of Landau in the Palatinate. The town village currently has about 750 inhabitants and lies at an altitude of 171 m. The small Birnbach flows through the village. In this small wine village stands the oldest church in the Palatinate.

    Roadbook

The circular route begins at the village square and initially leads northwards from here. After about 150 m, upon reaching the vineyards, it turns onto the farm road heading east. When you reach the street and turn left, you can already see the "small and large Hohl." The Hohl is a natural monument, a vivid example of the stability of loess walls. Since the church steps are currently being renovated, you ascend the small Hohl to the parking lot; on the right side is the Protestant church with the oldest church tower in the Palatinate, consecrated in 1040. At the end of the parking lot is the Napoleon bench. Such benches were erected in honor of the "King of Rome." The circular route then continues on the south side at the beginning of the parking lot and leads through a small door into the cemetery, on the west side of which, at the height of the stone cross, a pedestrian bridge crosses the small Hohl. Now you follow the path above Wollmesheim and hike towards the Palatinate Forest. Along the way, you can enjoy the wonderful panorama. At the end of the path, the state road is crossed on the right via an underpass, after which you turn left again towards Haardt and reach the Old Press House from 1759. Above the rest area, the trail continues towards the Palatinate Forest mountains along the grape variety trail until the path veers north according to the markers. After about 400 m, it turns right again eastwards to the shelter hut and the Long Bench. From there, you have a magnificent view over Landau and the Rhine plain to Heidelberg, Odenwald, and Black Forest. From the shelter hut, the route continues on the grass path above and parallel to the road to Arzheim heading north, then crosses this road after about 500 m eastwards and passes the old boundary stones marking the district boundaries between Arzheim and Wollmesheim. The path then leads towards Wollmesheim, heading south, at the end turning east again and ascending southwards at the walnut tree to the former excavation site of the Wollmesheim princely grave from the Bronze Age. From the "princely seat," you have a splendid panoramic view extending from Madenburg to Hambach Castle. Then the path continues westwards towards the mountains, then through the underpass, and before the housing again westwards along the gardens to the street "Am Mütterle." At the Gänseplatz, you can either continue hiking on the Weiherweg and take the southern circular route or walk back to the village square through Wollmesheim's main street, passing beautiful half-timbered houses, the old tithe barn, and the former school. For refreshment, visiting the village tavern in the community center is recommended.
