Ascent: In front of GH Hoisn to its upper parking areas, from here upward via a partially paved hiking trail to the forest road, where you have the option to choose either trail 02/410 or trail 14/410. We take the trail (forest road) 14/410, which has been partially newly constructed due to shifts in the Gschliefgraben. For marking, there are currently only trail signs, with no additional markings yet. From WP 04, continuously upward, where the forest road becomes flatter, after about 10 minutes you meet the other hiking trail. From here, about 30 minutes to Laudachsee, up to here suitable for everyone including older children.
A stretch along the west shore of Laudachsee brings you to the Gassnersteig, which ascends steeply; in the upper section there are cable protections ending shortly before the Hohe Scharte.
We go left onto the Dr. Atzlingersteig, with short cable protections installed at four points. Furthermore, you pass the Katzensteinfenster and with good visibility can see the Laudachsee. Shortly afterwards pass through the Gamsluckn and in a few minutes you reach the summit of Katzenstein.
