This circular route takes hikers above the town of Hydra to the nearby heights before descending to approach the harbor of Resistance by Mandraki beach and then return to Hydra from a seaside road.
Route 4 is essentially a circular walk that starts at the port of Hydra, near the Clock, where the main route map is located. Soon it climbs through the alleys to the east, passing mansions and churches to exit the town of Hydra on a path that climbs to the chapel of Stavros. Stepping on a dirt road for a while, it soon turns towards the sea on a path that descends towards Mantraki. Coming out onto the road and the first houses, the route follows it to the cove on the beach of Mantraki. On either side of the entrance to the bay, two small forts were built during the Revolution of 1821, of which semi-ruined parts are preserved. These fortresses served to protect the bay that served as a port for the ships of the revolutionary fleet. The return is made from the coastal road to the port, passing in front of the Historical Archive - Museum of Hydra.
Author’s recommendation
Take only memories, leave only footprints. As ants and other members of the animal kingdom have not yet figured out how to break down plastic, please do not leave any rubbish on or around the trails. You will find bins in the villages.
If you are cold, do not light a fire! Try to warm up by simply walking faster.Smoking while hiking will not help you and will likely increase the risk of fire.
The locals are not a tourist attraction. If you wish to photograph them, please ask politely.
If you come across a gate blocking the path, feel free to pass through. Please leave it as you found it, either open or closed.
Please stay on the trails. Going off-trail can disturb the local wildlife, damage the natural vegetation, and harm the trail's infrastructure.
