The Hochstein is one of the most popular climbing hotspots for sport climbers in the Palatinate. While you can watch the climbers a little at the southern foot of the wall, this circular route also allows hikers an easy path to the great view from the Hochstein plateau over the Dahner Land. There is a spot on the tour where you get a great view of the Dahner castle group (Altdahn, Grafendahn, Tanstein). Large parts of the Hochstein plateau are well secured with railings. The route runs entirely through forest. Very short route… more a brisk walk that requires some surefootedness.
Path types: 70% narrower forest paths, 30% forest roads / paved paths. Cave: at the summit area, the paths are slightly deviated from. Those who find this exposed can omit it.
Orientation: no continuous signage. Those unfamiliar with the area should carry a map or GPS.
Dining options: none
Author’s recommendation
No dining options on the route: bring sufficient provisions.
The Dahner castles are 200 m off the path; anyone interested can include them.
