Die Dahner Burgengruppe gehört zu den eindruckvollsten Felsenburgen im Wasgau und zu den größten Burganlagen in der Pfalz.

                                         

Tanstein, auf  dem westlichen Fels, wurde wohl auf einer Burgenanlage des Frühmittelalters aufgebaut.

Im Jahre 1328 ließ Johann III die Burg zum "Dankenstein" ausbauen.  Im Laufe der Jahre wechselte die Burg mehrmals seine Besitzer.    Ludwig II war der letzte Burgherr. Ende des 16. Jahrhundert blieb Tanstein unbewohnt und zerfiel zur Ruine.

Grafendahn, kleinste der "Dahner Burgen" auf dem mittleren der fünf Sandsteinfelsen.

Grafendahn wurde 1287 durch Konrad Mursel als Ganerbenburg erbaut.  1339 kauft Graf Johann II von Sponheim alle Anteile der Burg auf und wird Alleinbesitzer von Grafendahn.  Nach dem Aussterben derer von Sponheim wechselt die Burg mehrmals seine Besitzer.

Der Ritter Hans von Drot (Hans Trapp) wird im Jahr 1485 neuer Besitzer von Grafendahn. Die Burg galt seitdem als unbewohnbar und ging 1793 an das Bistum Speyer zurück.

Altdahn,  größte der drei Ruinen auf dem Ostfels gelegen.

Vermutlich wurde die Burg  im 11. Jahrhundert erbaut, es wird ein "Anshelmus de Tannicka" erwähnt. 1189 wird in einer Urkunde von

Friedrich I. ein "Heinrich von der Tanne" als Besitzer genannt. 1236 geht die Burg an den Bischof von Speyer (Konrad IV), "Friedrich von Dahn" (Bruder von Konrad) wird Burgherr.  

Die Burg wurde in Lauf der Jahre mehrmals  durch Kriege und Brände zertört.

Im Jahre 1603 starb der letzte Dahner Ritter, die Burg Altdahn wurde seit her nie mehr bewohnt.

Während des 30jährigen Krieges und dem Pfälzischen Erbfolgekrieg wurde die Burg entgültig zerstört.

Im Jahre 1820 erlitt Altdahn durch einen Felssturz nochmals großen Schaden. Durch Sanierungsarbeiten wird versucht

die Substanz der mächtigen Anlage zu erhalten.
