Hardly any route around Murnau on Staffelsee offers more insights into intact nature than the well-known and popular Moos circular route.
Whether shrikes, quail kings, or European adders, whether carnivorous sundew, Siberian iris, bug orchids, or the scepter flower, in the Murnauer Moos – the largest contiguous and largely original moor area in Central Europe – there is still a great wealth of plant and animal species that have long since disappeared elsewhere. In the Murnauer Moos, large areas of hay meadows, lowland and transitional moors, spring funnels, old waters, and residual lakes combine with fully developed raised bogs into a complex of habitats with many rare and endangered species.

Starting from the Georgskircherl, also called "Ähndl", built in the 8th century and thus one of the oldest churches in the Staffelsee area, the hike leads along Ramsach and Lindach, always with a view of the mountain range bordering the moor, then turning right onto a boardwalk with a rest hut in the middle of the moor for closer insights into the animal and plant world.
For hikers who like to stop on the way, we recommend not to take the turnoff but continue straight ahead. The sun terrace (moor and mountain view) and good cake at Café Habersetzer reward the extra effort of the detour to Grafenaschau.
Upon reaching Westried, follow Graf-Alban-Straße to the right and then Moosrainer Straße. Take the second turnoff to the left and you return to a footpath that soon leads you along the railway lines on a beautiful ridge towards the east. After the second crossing of the railway line, turn right and then immediately left again.
Now you come back towards Ähndl and can visit the church or stop in the shade of the chestnut trees of the adjoining beer garden or on the sun terrace of the Alpenhof Hotel.
