The town of Schlat, with its two local mountains, the Wasserberg and the Fuchseck, is situated in a sheltered location amid the beautiful landscape of the Voralps at the foot of the Swabian Alb.
The community is primarily known for its fruit farming, so along the way you’ll find many farm stands and roadside stalls offering fresh, local produce.
Thanks to the favorable climate and the hard work and ingenuity of the fruit growers, this small community is known far beyond the county borders for its excellent fruit and the delicious products made from it. Whether strawberries, cherries, plums, mirabelle plums, pears, apples, or berries—many farmers and businesses in the community are dedicated to growing these sweet fruits!
In addition, residents and visitors can enjoy a well-developed infrastructure with good transportation links and a vibrant community life. This is particularly evident during the traditional festivals, which are joyfully celebrated together. Along the Albtraufgänger Trail from Fuchseck toward Wasserberg, hikers can enjoy a fantastic view of the Drei Kaiserberge mountains and the Filstal valley.

Roadbook
The “Heiligenbergrunde” loop trail stretches 5.9 kilometers and begins on the eastern outskirts of Schlat. The route circles the Heiligenberg, leading from the “Wetterschiller” field toward Wasserberg and on to the “Loch” field, where it crosses the still-young Weilerbach stream.
Already halfway up, you’ll be treated to a picturesque view of the orchard meadows and the striking Drei Kaiserberge mountains. A large part of the trail runs through dense forest, home to numerous wild animals, before leading back through the idyllic Rommental valley to the village.
Heiligenberg owes its name to a former pilgrimage chapel, known as the “Dollenkirchle.” This chapel, first mentioned in 1537, was dedicated to the “Lieben Frau” (Our Lady) and was donated by a wealthy farmer from Schlater out of gratitude. At times, the chapel was even staffed by a priest. The remains of the foundation walls lie south of the Burgstüble, but today they are overgrown and difficult to make out.
