Three days around the Brettachtal Valley
Hikeable Bretzfeld. The large municipality offers heavenly views and almost 200 kilometers of well-marked hiking trails: a circular hiking trail Brettachtal as well as further circular hiking trails in all twelve districts starting from parking lots. But also cycling trails lead through "wine and nature – pure".
The Himmelreich, the vineyard site above the Bretzfeld district of Siebeneich, is the first scenic highlight (330 m) on the circular hike. From this spot the view over vineyards, the places Siebeneich, Schwabbach, into the Brettachtal valley up to the Waldenburg mountains, the Mainhardt forest and the Löwenstein mountains is heavenly. Anyone looking at this lovely landscape can say with Eduard Mörike about Hohenlohe: “Idyllic, full of poetry, a particularly tenderly shaped handful of Germany.”

From the vineyards of Himmelreich near Siebeneich, the hiker enters a forest area. They pass the twin oaks and the Stone Table near Dimbach. From here, then in the districts of Waldbach and Eschenau, the hiker is on secluded forest paths. The first stage ends in Eschenau. The second day goes from Eschenau to Brettach. And that is up and down, through forest, meadows and vineyards located in the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park. Gala views are guaranteed over the Sulm valley, Bernbach valley and Brettach valley. The highest point is Neuhütten, with the viewing tower Steinknickle (525 m). The wine village Unterheimbach is passed through. Also see Tour 16: from Unterheimbach to Buchhorn this stage is identical with the Brettachtal circular trail. On the way from Buchhorn, via Hälden, Stöckig, Lindelberg to Bretzfeld, there is again a nice mix of vineyards, forest and panoramic views. The hiker will agree with the writer Carl Julius Weber: “Hohenlohe is one of the most beautiful gems in Württemberg.” A variant to the Stone Sofa from Unterheimbach. Along the Brettachtal circular trail, a detour (2½ to 3 hours) to a special destination is offered: a stone sofa in the forest. Carved into the natural stone in 1885. In an era of romantic sentiment. After the sports facilities (hiking parking lot) take the left fork and cross the Bernbach stream. At the next fork turn right and follow alongside the Bernbach (flows on the right). Another fork, and here take the right path. Marking No. 2/3. Left of the brook uphill (2/3). After the ascent continue on a level and then turn right into Breitwaldstraße. At the sign Sofaweg straight ahead, slightly downhill in a left curve. Over a small brook (2) toward a right curve. Stone sofa is on the left on a bank beside the path. Continue on path No. 2 and keep right into Bernbachweg. At the clearing straight ahead, slightly downhill and straight on path No. 2. Then follow the marking blue cross, sign Salenhaus, fork. From here pay attention to markings 2 and blue cross. On an asphalt lane to Herrenhölzle and Unterheimbach. Suitable for prams and wheelchairs only in reverse order to the Stone Sofa.
Circular Hiking Trails
Two to three circular hiking trails each start at suitable parking lots with information boards. Namely at the Banzhaf parking lot in Siebeneich, at the Stone Table and in the Sperbelhau near Waldbach. The other hiking parking lots: Herrenhölzle near Unterheimbach, near the sports facilities and at the Unterheimbach wine slope, at the northern entrance to Brettach, at the Geddelsbach cemetery, at the Hohenlohe winery in Adolzfurt, at Stöckig between Adolzfurt and Windischenbach, at Wiesenkelter Bretzfeld and at the guesthouse "Rose" in Bitzfeld. The circular trails range from two to nine kilometers in length. Overall you can hike up to 122 km on them.
