A short but somewhat more demanding walk around Gräfinthal due to a good ascent, with great views. Here you can easily work off the calories previously gained from the local gastronomy.
This walk alternates between forest paths, avenues, and field paths. The amount of asphalt on this short route is quite high, so the path can sometimes be walked without sturdy hiking shoes. The gem Gräfinthal with its local gastronomy offers the perfect starting point. Those who want to enjoy a special view can make a detour to the Heidenkopfturm on the hill and climb the wooden tower for views all the way to the Vosges.
Author’s recommendation
The natural stage idyllically located close to the path, run by the Cultural Association Bliesmengen-Bolchen e.V., attracts around 15,000 visitors annually during the June to August playing season. Each season features a popular children’s play and usually a humorous adult play on the program. In addition, there are occasional guest performances from a friendly theatre association. The arena-shaped and elevated auditorium offers 1,500 seats with a perfect view of the stage. Performances and prices for the respective season can be found on the natural stage's website.
Read the information boards on-site to learn what makes the region so special and feel free to relax on benches or at the local gastronomy. Take the opportunity to climb the Heidenkopfturm. From here you have an incredible view and the perfect backdrop for unforgettable holiday photos!

Roadbook
The start of the route is the parking lot in Gräfinthal. At the beginning, it is worth first taking a look at the village including the monastery ruins and dovecotes. According to tradition, Countess Elisabeth of Blieskastel founded the Wilhelmiten monastery near Bliesmengen in 1243. Over the course of its history, the monastery was destroyed and rebuilt several times. Gräfinthal was the last Wilhelmiten monastery on German soil and was dissolved in 1785 on the initiative of Countess Marianne von der Leyen of Blieskastel by Pope Clement XIV. Since 1999, the monastery has been resettled and renovated by the Benedictine Order.
From the parking lot, the route first goes through an avenue towards Sonnenhof and then turns right onto Sommerberg. Here, it goes quite steeply uphill for a few minutes, but you are rewarded with a beautiful view of Gräfinthal. At the intersection on top of the field, the path continues to the right into the forest. After some time in the forest, it turns right back onto the field. At the next T-junction, the path turns right back into the valley, passing the natural stage, back to Gräfinthal.
