Glungezer-Hütte from Tulfein via Fritz-Anker-Steig
Access to the Glungezer-Hütte - In the footsteps of the former hut keepers
In memory of the honorary member of the Alpenverein Hall in Tirol, Fritz Anker, and in gratitude for the 50 years of activity at the Glungezer, the "old" path was renamed "Fritz-Anker-Steig" in 2004 and reactivated in 2023 according to the Tyrolean mountain path concept.
The varied and moderately difficult (red) path of the former hut keepers is a special experience and a worthwhile alternative to the approach via the panoramic path.
The approach is from the mountain station Tulfein (2,056 m) to the Schaferhütte (2,278 m) and further on the Fritz-Anker-Steig. This leads from the Schaferhütte (2,278 m) – in the lower area roughly along the winter ascent and in close proximity to the Glungezer legend via ferrata – over three flat sections and light block terrain (upper section) to the Glungezer-Hütte (2,610 m).
With the Glungezerbahn (2 sections) → mountain station Tulfein (2,056) → Schaferhütte (2,278 m) → Fritz-Anker-Steig → Glungezer-Hütte (2,610 m)
Author’s recommendation
This path is very suitable to practice walking on block terrain with appropriate footwear (balance, coordination, looking ahead, etc.) - Occasionally, marmots and ptarmigans can also be observed. For this reason - "Please do not leave the trail"

Ascent: With the 10-person gondola to the middle station Halsmarter (1,560 m) and then further with the "Tulfein Express" (equipped only with gondolas in summer), you quickly reach the mountain station Tulfein (2,056 m).
From mountain station Tulfein to Fritz-Anker-Steig (approx. 45 minutes): At the large panorama board at the mountain station Tulfein, go left uphill (not to Tulfeinalm) to the first signpost. Follow the sign "Glungezer-Hütte" for about 20 minutes on the nature trail. This leads past the left above the Zirbensee and joins the Kurt-Recheis path (gravel path). Via this you reach the signpost above the Schaferhütte (2,256 m). Now at the signpost turn right (sign Fritz-Anker-Steig) downhill, past the Schaferhütte to the large and striking rock with the board "Anker-Steig to Glungezerhütte".
Fritz-Anker-Steig to Glungezer-Hütte (approx. 50 minutes): At the striking rock, a short section slightly right and then left up the easy and well-marked path to the "Stoangatterl". Now between two rock walls through to the 1st flat section. At the end of the flat section left (not right to the via ferrata) up the path, past the "Akia" to the large support of the material cable car of the Bundesheer (visible from afar).
Immediately after the support of the material cable car left uphill to the 2nd flat section (do not follow the wooden rods! – winter ascent). Now continue hiking to the next ascent. This begins with a short section of block rock, passes the memorial site (wood) to the "cornice" and the orange support of the material cable car to the Glungezer-Hütte, which is clearly visible from afar.
Now you relaxingly walk along the 3rd flat section (enjoy the beautiful panorama) before reaching the last ascent of the Fritz-Anker-Steig.
This is easy in the first part and then changes into block terrain (well marked) at the end. When you reach this section, you see the striking rock (signpost) with the board "Anker-Steig to Tulfein" and the Glungezer-Hütte is already visible on the right above. Now follow the last 5 minutes of the panoramic path (AV 333) to the Glungezer-Hütte.
