The ascent to the Glungezer Hut begins at the Tulfein mountain station (2,056 m) of the Glungezerbahn cable car. From there, follow the signs for “Glungezer Hut", hike past the idyllic Zirbensee lake, and reach the Tulfein Jöchl (2,278 m) via the Kurt-Recheis-Weg path. The scenic "Panoramasteig" (AV 333), which was built in 1998 by the Alpenverein Hall in Tirol with minimal impact on the natural environment, then winds its way up in serpentines and switchbacks, and in sections over boulder terrain terrain on the northeast ridge of the Glungezer and below the summit cross, to the Glungezer Hut at 2,610 meters.
The Panoramasteig path offers impressive views of the Inn Valley with the full spectrum of its peaks. To the east, there are deep insights into the Voldertal valley with its almost tangible peaks—all the way to the Olperer towering in the background. To the south, the view sweeps from the Sonnenspitze over the Glungezer, the Gamslahnerspitze, and the Kreuzspitze to the Rosenjoch.

Roadbook
ASCENT the starting point: From the valley station of the Glungezerbahn in Tulfes (948 m), you can easily reach the Halsmarter middle station (1,560 m) with the modern 10-person gondola lift. Then continue your journey on the “Tulfein Express,” which is also equipped with gondolas, and you will quickly reach the Tulfein mountain station (2,056 m).
Tulfein mountain station to Tulfein Jöchl (approx. 50 min): At the large panorama board, follow the signs for “Glungezer-Hütte” to the left onto the upper wide path (not towards Tulfeinalm). After a few minutes, you will reach the “Schartenkogel / Stalsinsalm” junction. Here, stay on the path signposted “Glungezer-Hütte / Glungezer Klettersteig” and continue straight ahead, first through a short forest clearing and then uphill on a path on the grassy slope. The trail runs to the left of the picturesque Zirbensee lake and joins the Kurt-Recheis-Weg path (wide gravel road). Follow this for about 30 minutes, passing the Schaferhütte hut, and you will reach the fork at Tulfein Jöchl (2,278 m) just before the Glungezer- Hut material cable car station.
Via the Panoramasteig to the Glungezer Hut (approx. 60 min): At Tulfein Jöchl, leave the Kurt Recheis-Weg path and follow the signs for “Glungezer Hut” and the path AV 333 to the right. From here, hike leisurely along the Tulfein-Jöch for a few minutes, pass the “Gwannschafalm / Naviser Jöchl” fork in the trail, and begin the ascent via the “generously” marked Panoramasteig path. This varied trail offers impressive views and leads uphill in serpentines and switchbacks, as well as over some boulder terrain on the northeast ridge of the Glungezer. After a final, moderate ascent, you reach the fork in the trail “Glungezergipfel / Glungezer-Hütte” below the summit cross. Here, continue to follow the signs for “Glungezer Hut” (AV333) and, via a flat passage with boulder terrain and a final, gentle ascent, you will reach the Glungezer Hut at an altitude of 2,610 meters.
At the fork in the trail mentioned above, you have the option of climbing directly to the Glungezer summit (2,677 m) in about 15 minutes. From there, you can enjoy an impressive view of a mountain panorama with around 500 peaks. The descent then follows the Glungezer-Geier-Weg path (AV 335), the lower section of which leads through boulder terrain to the Glungezer Hut.
