From Spital am Semmering over the Hocheck ridge (path no. 5) to the Stuhleck
The 5er path - as it is locally known - is a hiking trail that partially circumnavigates the Stuhleck on a ridge and ends by leading from the side of the Pfaffensattel to the summit. Orientation in town is not too easy, as there are many signs and markings. Once on the trail, it is almost impossible to get lost. The pleasant but sometimes steeper path passes the forest chapel, a first resting spot. Then it continues through the bright coniferous forest. Occasionally, you can look over to the ski slopes that are green in summer, but it is always peaceful. At the Hocheck, a rise on the trail without a landmark, the path continues at the end of the forest onto the toll road. From there, you can already see the Alois-Günther-Haus. Cross the road and follow the plateau hiking trail with the goal always in sight. Once you reach the summit, you will be rewarded with a wide view of Schneeberg, Rax, Schneealpe, and the Graz mountains.
The descent can be chosen via the Karl-Lechner-Haus and then via the Kaltenbachgraben back to the starting point.

From the church, you first follow the road to the Kaltenbachgraben. Shortly after, turn left (sign) onto the Lärchenwaldweg towards the odd numbers. There, take the first left, where you see the Bildstock (see photo). Then cross a free meadow with a lift support to a red bench. Follow the path to the right and continue to the forest edge. Here, cross the road onto the forest path. The next notable point is the forest chapel with more benches. After that, cross the road and continue briefly uphill, then follow the wide ridge with a slight left curve on the path. Here you suddenly reach the Hocheck, 1488m, which you bypass to the left in the direction of ascent. The road from the Karl-Lechner-Haus is then crossed, and you continue to the Stuhleck toll road, which is also crossed. Then follow the ridge path past the Spitaler Alm along the fence to the Alois-Günther-Haus and the summit cross standing behind it.
