From Liggeringen, we cross the sunny nature reserve Ober Öschle, home to numerous species of orchids and gentians. These can be observed from the path. At the highest point of the Bodanrück, bison graze in a large open enclosure at Bodenwald. The nearby inn "Bodenwald" is a popular excursion destination. Nearby stand the Alt-Bodman ruin and Frauenberg monastery. Both are historically closely connected to the Counts of Bodman, the namesakes of Lake Constance and the Bodanrück. Along the lakeshore, the circular route leads us from Bodman to just before the Marienschlucht, which has been closed since a landslide in 2015. Magnificent viewpoints to Lake Überlingen and the Untersee lie directly on the path. In föhn weather, the Swiss and Austrian Alps are within easy reach.

    Author’s recommendation

From April 1 to October 31, the Bodman Castle Garden is open to the public on weekdays. It is located directly on the hiking path.

    Roadbook

From the bus stop Liggeringen Dorfmitte, the path "Am Gässelbach" leads up to the inn "zum Kranz", before which on the right, you leave the village through Bergstraße and the Ober Öschle Nature Reserve with a beautiful view back to the Radolfzell Minster. We follow the Lake Constance circular route to the right, going up over "Neuwiesen" and along the steep slope to the viewpoint „Lusthäusle“. This idyllic spot once brought the lovers from Liggeringen and Bodman together. Breathtaking is also the panoramic view of the Untersee from the island of Reichenau over the Mettnau peninsula to the town of Radolfzell. Behind it lies the Höri with the Schienerberg. Straight ahead, we reach the bison enclosure, where up to 20 bison can be observed at close range. The first opportunity to stop on the circular route is the Bodenwald inn. From the "bison enclosure" location, a short detour to the right to the "Lake Constance view" at the cliff edge to Lake Überlingen is worthwhile before we steeply descend to it towards Bodman. At the fork "Schloßhalde", there are two alternatives: via the Alt-Bodman ruin or the Frauenberg monastery. Both offer a magnificent panoramic view of Lake Überlingen as well as the Hegau and Linzgau regions. In the back valley, they join again. With the destination "Liggeringen," we follow the wooden sign "Schifflände" and walk on soft paths on the molasse slope above Bodman directly to Bodman Castle. Past the castle garden, the narrow Bodenburg path leads us to the lake shore and along it towards the Marienschlucht. At low water, it is possible to walk directly by the water parallel to the lake path, but natural obstacles caused by fallen trees must be accepted often. The lake path abruptly ends at a gate blocking further access to the gorge. Thus, we must leave the lake and climb up to the right over the Blissenhalde. On the premium hiking trail "Seegang", we continue to the right to Höfener Kreuz. South of this lies the refreshment hut Hof Höfen. The route continues with views to the Schneckenberg. The drumlin is a relic of the last ice age. If visibility is good, a detour to the summit is worthwhile. It offers us a final magnificent panoramic view over the Untersee, with luck reaching the Alps. Finally, we return marked by the yellow lozenge through the „Finsterloch“ back to Liggeringen.
