From Kranjska Gora to Planica and Tamar
Path through the glacial valley in the northern part of the Slovenian Julian Alps, which will take you to the valley of achievements - Planica.
We start the route in front of the Tourist Information Center Kranjska Gora. First, we go through Kranjska Gora along Borovška Road, past Ramada Hotels & Suites and Ramada Resort Kranjska Gora. We continue towards Podkoren along the cycling path under the cable cars. When we pass the World Cup alpine skiing track in Podkoren, we notice a forest road on the left side, which we join. We continue past the double chairlift where the path turns slightly left through Struge and also crosses it. The path continues along the forest road to meadows on the other side. Ahead of us opens a view of the Slatna ski tow in Planica. We continue towards the NC Planica hotel, which is just ahead of us. At the hotel, we turn right towards the ski jumps. The path takes us past the ski jumps towards a gravel road leading to the Tamar valley. After a few hundred meters, you can choose a footpath on the right or a gravel road on the left. If you join path no. 12, you can see the second source of the Sava river and the Zelenci nature reserve. In Planica, you can see the ski jumps where a person first flew over 100 m on skis, and the largest ski flying hill in the world, where the magical 250 meter mark was surpassed.

Safety information
The following recommendations have been prepared by alpine associations with the aim of making the activity as safe as possible.
1. Building fitness
Hiking and mountaineering are endurance sports that strain the heart and accelerate blood circulation, so hikers and mountaineers must be healthy and be able to realistically assess their abilities. Do not rush; choose a pace such that no one in the group collapses.
2. Careful planning
Maps, guides, internet, and experts can inform you about the length, elevation difference, difficulty of the route, and current conditions. Always choose routes according to the group's abilities. Pay special attention to the weather forecast, as wind, rain, and cold increase the danger of accidents.
3. Complete equipment
Properly adapt your equipment to the planned hike; your backpack should not be too heavy. Always carry protection against rain, cold, and sun, as well as a first aid kit and a mobile phone (emergency number in Europe: 112). Use maps and GPS to help with orientation.
4. Proper footwear
Stable hiking or mountaineering boots protect the foot and reduce stress on it while improving grip when walking. When choosing footwear, make sure the boots fit perfectly, have soles with good grip, are waterproof, and lightweight.
5. A reliable step is essential
Falls due to slipping or tripping are the most common causes of accidents. Keep in mind that too fast a walking pace or fatigue greatly affect the security of your step and your concentration. Watch out for falling rocks! Careful walking will help avoid triggering rockfalls!
6. Stay on marked paths
On unmarked paths, there is a greater danger of getting lost, as well as increased risk of falls and rockslides. Avoid shortcuts. If you realize you are lost, return to the last place where you still know your location. Steep slopes with old snow are often underestimated but are very dangerous and easy to slip on.
7. Regular breaks
Regular breaks allow hikers and mountaineers to recover and enjoy the landscape and company. Eat and drink regularly to maintain your strength and concentration. Isotonic drinks are ideal for quenching thirst.
8. Responsibility for children
It is very important for children to discover the landscape in a fun and varied way. On sections where there is a danger of falling, one experienced adult should take care of each child. Very demanding hikes requiring prolonged concentration are not suitable for children.
9. Smaller groups
Smaller groups are more flexible and allow members to help each other. Everyone in your group should be familiar with the hike’s destination and route in both directions. The group should stick together. Solo hikers beware: even a minor accident may require serious rescue.
10. Respect for nature and the environment
Protect the natural environment. Do not leave garbage behind, stay on the path, do not disturb wild or domestic animals, do not touch plants, and respect protected areas. Use public transport or ensure the most optimal use of private vehicles.
