You’ll hike around the Ringelsberg on beautiful trails. The trail climbs gently to the Ringelsberghütte, where you can enjoy the view and take a break before beginning your descent again at the Haardtrand. The tour is also great for families. Kids will be rewarded for their efforts with the lovely forest playground at the Ringelsberghütte!

UFFBASSE! – A campaign for considerate coexistence in nature

    • Fire & Smoking – Lighting fires, smoking, and barbecuing are strictly prohibited in the forest and must be avoided at all costs! This is the only way to prevent fires and the resulting extensive damage to nature and wildlife.

    • Be Considerate While Out and About – Always be proactive, friendly, and considerate toward everyone you meet along the way. This is especially important on farm roads, where winemakers, farmers, and foresters work even on weekends.

    • Nature Conservation – Stay on the designated trails and avoid unnecessary noise when out in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest so as not to disturb the rhythms of nocturnal animals.

    • Picnics & Trash – Remember to bring a trash bag with you and take your trash home with you. Use only the designated rest areas for breaks and picnics.

    • Keep Dogs on a Leash—Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will appreciate it.

Stop by the Ringelsberghütte and enjoy a typical Palatinate mountain hut meal and the mountain hut atmosphere! Please check the opening hours on the PWV Frankweiler website (www.pwv-frankweiler.de)! Kids can let off some steam at the forest playground.

    Safety information

Hiking on nature trails and paths— Especially in the fall, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground may conceal uneven surfaces, roots, rocks, or holes in the path. Even after thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may break off. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural trails can become muddy and slippery in certain sections. Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. In some places, sure-footedness is required. You should expect trail obstructions of this kind when you go hiking. If you feel that certain sections of the trail are impassable for you, you should bypass them. Despite trail markings, we always recommend carrying a suitable hiking map for safety reasons, so that you can quickly find your way to a safe area in the event of a thunderstorm or emergency, for example. Be sure to pay attention to trail closures and detours.

Dangerous Situations — If an emergency arises, quick help is essential. And even though cell phones can transmit GPS signals, the traditional rescue points are often the fastest way to get help. These are located in areas that are easily accessible to emergency vehicles. Make a note of the locations marked with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return to one of these locations and provide the number on the sign when you call for help. This way, emergency responders will know where to find you.

    Roadbook

Your hike starts at the Frankweiler hiking parking lot. The brown-and-green trail markers, featuring the silhouette of Frankweiler with the Ringelsberg mountain above it, will guide you along the way. The trail climbs gently for the most part as it winds its way up to the Ringelsberg and the Ringelsberghütte. After you’ve enjoyed a break there (check the opening hours!) and taken in the view, the trail continues down the eastern side of the Ringelsberg, above the striking Frankweiler quarry, back to the starting point.

    Equipment

Sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, sun and rain protection, and a sufficient supply of food—and especially drinks—should be packed in your backpack for every hike, since places to stop for refreshments or shops aren’t always available or open. Although the trail is marked throughout, for safety reasons you should always carry a suitable map or a hiking app with you.
