Roadbook
Along the edge of your route, information stations tell interesting facts about the landscape and history. From the Stein hiking car park, a steep hillside path leads you to the outer bailey of Blankenberg Castle. The impressive ruin of the main castle and the medieval old town are popular excursion destinations. The spectacular view from the castle hill over the Sieg valley invites you to linger, and the beautifully restored half-timbered town offers a chance for a final refreshment. A narrow path descends into the quiet Ahrenbach valley. After a slight ascent, the expanse of the "Scheid" height, characterized by fields and meadows, provides variety before the path leads to Süchterscheid. The place is known for the Holy Cross pilgrimage church – an architectural ensemble worth seeing. As the second valley in the trio of valleys, you reach the Ravenstein Bach valley, shaped by meandering water, on comfortable forest and field paths; it transitions into the lonely and species-rich Krabach valley. With a bit of luck, you may encounter rare animal species such as the black stork or kingfisher here. Back in the Sieg valley, the neo-baroque Merten castle park surprises with unexpected views. Parallel to the Sieg, the return route follows a wild romantic path along steeply falling rocks and through the Sieg meadows and the charming half-timbered village of Auel back to the starting point.
