The first castle was built by the nobles of Emersacker in the 12th century but was destroyed in 1546 during the Schmalkaldic War. The Fuggers acquired it in 1613 and rebuilt it. Mostly demolished in the 19th century, the two round towers with onion domes and the outbuildings still remain today. Since 1993, following extensive renovation, the town hall as well as other community facilities such as the fire department, youth center, and club house have been housed here.
We start at the war memorial in front of Emersacker Castle at 448 m. At the large intersection, we follow the main street to the left over the Weiherbach and take the Schmiedgasse after Bachgasse half to the left. This leads us out of the village in a left curve (signposted here as "Circular route Around the Mühlbühl") and over the Laugna at 443 m. To the right, we can already see Modelshausen and the wooded ridge with Buschel- and Bocksberg, on which castles once stood in the Middle Ages. The latter was destroyed in the Thirty Years’ War in 1635 and still exists today as a ruin. Straight ahead we reach the forest at a timber storage site and hike to the right along its edge. Shortly through the forest, with a view of Modelshausen and the Laugnatal valley with its small reed-covered remnant wetland areas. The field path leads us to Modelshausen at 445 m with the Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul. At the walled cemetery, we turn left – straight ahead leads to the Restaurant
