In Ehrwald, the signposted 'Moosweg to Lermoos' begins between the Hotel 'Grüner Baum' and the Spar market. After the 'Große Moosbrücke' over the Loisach, either follow left or right along the Lussbach to the outskirts of Lermoos. Then through the village to the valley station of the Grubigstein cable car (no significant altitude difference up to this point). Take the lift to the Grubigalm (1,720 meters). Behind the valley station of the new 6-seater chairlift, take footpath No. 15 (near the crossroads) and—slightly up and down—through the forest upwards to about 1,750 meters. Now comfortably downhill on the wide forest footpath. The route now enters the dwarf pine area (view to Blindsee, occasionally steeper downhill). The path leads back into the forest further down. The footpath or trail merges into a forest road—continue down from this point. The route leads to the Fern Pass federal road. Along the road, about 5 minutes to the right towards the Fern Pass. North of the Fern Pass guesthouse along the old Roman road gently downhill ('Nassereith', 'Via Claudia Augusta'). At the fork, continue right, then soon left downhill towards 'Fernstein', 'Nassereith' (briefly a kind of gravel track). Soon past the Schanzlsee (after the lake stay on the route for cyclists and pedestrians). The old Roman road (a short section is a trail) leads gently downhill to Fernstein Castle with the hotel. From Fernstein Castle, continue gently downhill along the old Roman road. After a few meters, the trail to Lorea Hut branches right into the forest. On the trail very steep and often serpentine next to the stream uphill through the forest. Later the trail leads through dwarf pine areas and finally across wide alpine meadows—now less steep—to Lorea Hut.
