Hiking along winding paths through several ridge gorges with some strenuous ascents and descents is a real nature adventure for sporty hikers. Hollow ways lead through fairy-tale-like liana forests, over narrow paths and uneven grass and earth trails. In the birthplace of the philosopher Peter Wust in Rissenthal, there is a museum.
In the forests around Rissenthal, there are more than ten gorges, also called ridges. The hike starts at the village square in Rissenthal. A few minutes later, you experience an extraordinary hollow way. Over washed-out colorful sandstone rocks with various shades, diverse root formations have developed.
At an old orchard meadow, a wooden gate is passed. The path section along orchard trees is replaced during the descent by a real "liana jungle."
On the descent above Rissenthal stands the memorial chapel from 1887 on Dungberg.
The forest behind the chapel is damp. In the gorge labyrinth, moss-covered rocks and fallen trees, also covered in moss, lie crisscross in the gorges. Barely has one gorge been crossed before a steep climb through the next gorge begins.
The highlight of the hike is the so-called "Great Ridge." The view from above into the steeply falling gorge is tremendous. Sun rays and wind create wonderful shadow plays on the colorful sandstone rocks. Moss-covered rocks and trees, ferns, and ivy complement the picture gallery of the "Great Ridge."
The gorge path was rated with 87 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.

Attention:
Basically, entering the forest and walking the hiking trails is at your own risk!
Seasonally or weather-dependent, increased sure-footedness is required on certain trail sections. Therefore, wear clothing and hiking shoes with appropriate soles adapted to the season and weather. Carefulness is required due to breaking branches and damaged trees. In strong winds as well as in winter due to snow and ice, there is an increased danger from falling trees and dropping crown parts.

Roadbook
Starting from the village square, after just a few hundred meters, a magnificent hollow way awaits the hikers, which soon transitions into the first of several ridge gorges. Along natural paths, it goes down a hollow way again towards Rissenthal. After a short crossing of the village, the path climbs up again into a coniferous forest section. Here, a sensory bench invites you to rest.
The path steadily ascends, continuing on trails, and a steep climb, which can be safely "scaled" via stair steps. The reward awaits at the resting place "Zum Hungersberg," where two sensory benches stand and offer a beautiful panoramic view.
Continuing - right through an orchard meadow and liana forests - to a small chapel, the memorial chapel on the manure path. A gorge landscape made up of several interlocking ridge gorges, each different from the previous one, must now be explored on narrow earth paths. Arm-thick lianas seem to block the way, yet one always finds another trail through this fairy-tale landscape.
After the gorge landscape, a gnarly orchard meadow with a sensory bench. The path continues along the "Great Ridge" with magnificent views of the approximately 30 m steeply falling, reddish shining sandstone cliffs. Through extensive orchard meadows and narrow gorges, you finally hike along the Daufelbach back to the village square of the nature park village Rissenthal.

Equipment
Sure-footedness and shoes with slip-resistant soles are absolutely necessary. The path is not passable on ice and snow. During continuous rain, the water level in the gorges can rise so much that the path is impassable. You walk the path at your own risk. Due to the narrow paths, in many sections you can only walk one behind the other.
