Circular route Windeck Castle-Waldmatt

From the centre of Neusatz, follow the Ortenauer wine path past the Backhäusel uphill towards the sports field until just before the forest parking lot. Following the Ortenauer wine path to the right, you reach the Neusatz sports field. Continuing along the path, you come to the "Fat Oak" with a seating area for resting. Follow the well-maintained path to Windeck Castle. Here you can climb the castle tower, enjoy the adventure playground, or refresh yourself in the Windeck Castle gastronomy or the Pferdestall snack bar. Continue along the forest adventure path. After approx. 1 km, turn west downhill and leave the Ortenauer wine path. At the end of the forest path, you again have the option to stop at the Hotel Restaurant Café Jägersteig. Here you cross Kappelwindeckstraße and turn into Bergfriedenweg, placing you in the Bühl district of Riegel. Continue a short distance on Rittersbachstraße. Follow the blue diamond to the left. If you want to stop for a meal, instead of turning left, you can turn right and after about 200 m reach Hotel Rebstock. After the small forest section, keep right and then left into the field path. Here a wide view opens into the Rhine plain. You are now in the legendary Hennegraben. Having left the valley, you come to Waldmattstraße, which you follow on the right. Then keep left and turn into Wolfhagweg. Along the vineyards, you pass Veith winery to Burg-Windeck-Straße. Cross it and take the next left. After another 200 m, leave the paved road and go left up the meadow path until you reach the agricultural path. From here you have a wonderful view of the Neusatz valley. The path leads on to the Waldmatt town centre. From the centre with a pavilion, past the old schoolhouse and the Lourdes Grotto, the Old Church Path leads through the forest back to Neusatz. When you reach Schwarzwaldstraße, it's only a few meters to your starting point.
