This hike is especially suitable in spring and autumn due to the south-facing ascent and descent and the maximum elevation of 1,267 meters. However, it is worthwhile all year round. The Mariengrotto, the Falkenstein castle ruins, the Celtic tree circle, and the magnificent views of the majestic mountain scenery alone make the route very interesting. Additionally, the Burghotel Falkenstein and the Saloberalm invite you to stop for refreshments with a panoramic view.

SaloberalmRoadbook
From the eastern end of the parking lot, follow the path to the small road that crosses the Vils. Here take the path toward Falkenstein, which leads steadily uphill through open forest and passes by the Mariengrotto at the end. Directly below the Burghotel Falkenstein, a visit to the museum pavilion on the history of the Falkenstein castle ruins is worthwhile, and you shouldn't miss the short detour to the castle. From the hotel, follow the road downhill a short way until the path to the Saloberalm branches off to the right. With a steady ascent and descent, mostly downhill at the end, through forest with scenic open areas and pastureland, you reach the Saloberalm. Here, take the downhill path toward the Vils. At the next fork in the forest, follow the right path toward the Mariengrotto (a second grotto with this name), then at the next junction turn left downhill into the valley. Here, follow the Vils river upstream on the right side. On the left side of the path, a detour to the Celtic tree circle is worthwhile. The continuation leads directly back to the starting point.
