Botany Tip - Cotton Grass Cotton grass is found on the shores of high alpine lakes and in the mud of small ponds. From the green flower petals, long, snow-white hairs grow after flowering, which carry small fruits. The fruit hairs were formerly used to fill cushions and to clean wounds (like cotton).
More tips: Erlacher House: homemade wild garlic noodles Erlacher Bockhütte: Harberkas bread - homemade (otherwise Gelundener cheese) Oswalder Bock Hütte: Speick foot bath or homemade apple strudel on the rock terrace Be sure to sniff the pine forests when descending from the Pfannock or visit old ore mining sites when ascending the Pfannock!
From the Erlacherhaus take the driveway towards Erlacher Bockhütte for a short while. After about 10 minutes, leave the driveway and continue on hiking trail 122 along the little streams to the lower Bocksattel. Here you get a beautiful view of the raised bog to the west. Through the mountain pine, follow hiking trail 14 to the Pfannseen. It goes a bit steeper uphill to the Pfannock. The view to the Predigerstuhl rewards the ascent. Along hiking trail 14 you reach the Erlacher Bocksattel. Here the traces of ore mining are still clearly visible. Past the Erlacher Bockhütte, the hiking trail leads directly back to the starting point. The ascent is also possible with the mountain station of the Biosphere Park railway Brunnach - free for Carinthia Card holders.
