Author’s recommendation
A rest stop on the quietly located viewing bench next to the Holzhausen Church should not be missed to enjoy the wonderful view of Lake Starnberg.
The path is also well suited for a hike with children due to the many varied trails and animal encounters.

The hike starts directly behind the forest parking lot opposite the Holzhausen Church. We start on a small footpath heading south. After a few minutes, the forest path leads onto an open meadow, from which Schlossgut Oberambach can already be seen. We follow the small meadow path towards the castle estate until just past the cross called "Jesus with open arms." Here the meadow path turns left, so we pass the castle estate on the left side to the parking lot of the upscale organic hotel.
From the parking lot, we walk right into the hotel courtyard and then left again to the Demeter vegetable pickup station, where we turn right onto the path. The path runs briefly along the greenhouse and the hotel fields to a forest area, where we turn left, heading south. From here, we have the first beautiful view of Lake Starnberg, which is located to the west.
The path descends into a forest to a fork with a wooden signpost. Here we turn left, towards “Weidenkam 0.5km,” and shortly afterwards come across a large road. We cross it slightly to the left, where the path leads on a gravel road uphill to Schloss Weidenkam.
We reach the spacious grounds and walk eastward along the old, partly well-vegetated Weidenkam castle wall. Through the small windows and the large castle gate, views of the magnificent villa can be caught. At some point, a road branches off from the paved path. However, we continue along the asphalt path directly by the wall, which leads downhill to the Stobelmühle farmstead. This secluded Bavarian farm in the valley has two outdoor enclosures with some llamas. A real highlight for small and large animal lovers.
Behind the farm begins a field path heading west along a wooden fence. On the left side now runs a brook that accompanies us for some time. We continue to walk along the fence, past a large farmhouse, always keeping right until we reach the large road again. We cross it slightly to the right and walk into the forest.
Here we follow the wooden sign “Kugelmühle 1 km.” The forest path leads us out of the forest, along meadows, back into a forested area, where we cross the brook on a bridge and reach Kugelmühle. We walk on the street through farmhouses, heading west along a goat shed, until we reach a large road near Lake Starnberg.
Here we follow the sign “Hotel Schlossgut Oberambach” and turn right onto an avenue. We follow this only for a few meters until an unsigned path leads left up into a forest. The fairly steep ascent on the forest path is shaded, and at the top, you are rewarded with a wonderful view over Lake Starnberg up to the Alps. The forest path turns into an avenue and leads directly to the western part of Hotel Schlossgut Oberambach, where even non-guests can dine at a high price.
We walk through the hotel grounds until we come back to the hotel parking lot. From here, we follow the meadow path north back to the starting point of the hike. Upon reaching the forest parking lot, a detour to the Holzhausen Church is worthwhile. For this, we cross the road and walk left along the church wall up to a cozy, romantically located viewing bench. Here we conclude the hike and enjoy the spectacular view over Lake Starnberg one last time in peace. From there, we walk once around Kirchberg back to the hiking parking lot.
