Hiking trip through the charming landscape of the Svratecká Highland.

Sýkoř is one of the peaks of "Brno Heights" - a collecting game of peaks between the center of Brno and Praděd.

The Sýkoř Heights are located in the picturesque Svratecká Highland. I pondered for a long time on how to get there. This route is not demanding, and the town of Lomnice is a real gem where you can find many beautiful sights worth visiting.

The starting point is Borač. From there, a trail by Borač native, writer, and teacher Josef Uhr will lead you to Lomnice. The old, stone-laid path climbs from the Svratec valley over the ridge to the village of Veselí. It offers picturesque views of the Svratecká Upland. From the crossroads above Veselí, you can detour to the natural monuments Veselský chlum and Veselská lada. Lomnice is a small, cozy town with a number of Jewish monuments (synagogue, cemetery, school), a baroque church, town hall, and a castle currently under reconstruction. From Lomnice to Sýkoř, you trudge along the Jára Cimrman trail with several stops called trudges.

The rocky summit climber will not miss the ascent to the transmitter and the actual summit of Sýkoř.

From Sýkoř, the route gradually descends through forests via Skorotice to Nedvědice.

    Author’s recommendation

In Lomnice, the cafe Mumi Café was open in the morning - excellent cider, coffee, and beer from the local brewery Genius Noci.

The castle is closed, but in the garden you can find a magnificent red beech tree.

You can reach the starting point, the stop at Borač, by train from Brno. The same applies for the return from Nedvědice. Train connection Brno-Tišnov - Tišnov - Borač.

This is a busy, typically tourist route. So during the season, you will be travelling with many other tourists. The advantage is that the proposed route is not among the most visited, so you will get off with only a small group of excursionists who mostly head elsewhere.

Current connections can be found on the Idos website.
