If you are looking for a short nature trip just a few minutes from the city, head to the ruins of Bodoň castle. This lesser-known castle is located in the forests between the villages of Kokošovce and Zlatá Baňa and offers a pleasant walk combined with discovering history.
The route from the parking lot behind the village Zlatá Baňa (near the Dark Forest) leads through forest terrain and is approximately 1.5 - 2km long. Follow the yellow tourist mark and you will find yourself at the castle in about an hour.
Bodoň castle is part of the Šariš castle trail, which connects more than 80 unique historical sites in the Šariš region.
Author’s recommendation
At the top, you will find the remains of castle walls and a pleasant forest atmosphere, ideal for a short rest. You may also meet climbing enthusiasts here, who use these rocks as training walls for beginner climbing
There is a possibility to barbecue near the castle and a drinking water spring nearby.

We reach the castle by a path from Zlatá Baňa, turning right onto a forest road to the Makovica hill and from there further to the rock cliff on which the castle once stood. The path continues to the village of Abranovce and the opposite route can also be used. The most beautiful and quickest way is through Ráca valley along the forest asphalt road to the Heteť saddle, where we find the mentioned turn. Here we turn left, towards Pusté pole (Zlatá Baňa). After a short climb, we reach a plateau dominated by a huge rock cliff; a turn leads us to the only accessible path to the top of the cliff.
