The path leads from the castle eastwards to the German border. With its adjacent hamlets like the peaceful Pützlag, which we cross, the village of Raeren is particularly extensive. This hike convinces with its variety. The hiker wanders from an open hedge landscape to a more closed landscape image with the large forest bordering Germany. Slightly further in the forest area, we cross the former Vennbahn track. Back then, the steam engines still spat their soot into the green… nowadays, the RAVeL runs through the high forest. Once the peak is reached, the route leads back down to Raeren at the forest edge. Then it continues over various steps through the meadows – a true delight. And how wonderful it is to note that biodiversity is preserved thanks to the numerous hedges, as the hedges provide a very special habitat for wildlife. The day slowly fades away and through the turnstiles we return to the village of Raeren, which is already lightly frozen in the emerging winter.
