The hike takes us through the northern part of the Berglen. The start is in the main town of Oppelsbohm. Over the former vineyards and a beautiful hollow path, it goes up to the heights of Drexelhof. In good weather, you can see the 3-Kaiser mountains from here. Via Necklinsberg we reach Königstein. A memorial stone from 1841 that is said to commemorate the hunt of King Wilhelm I. Benches and tables invite you to rest. Next, we continue to my “favorite path” - the Pionierweg. The path was built by a pioneer unit, hence its name. It is a very narrow, scenically beautiful and partly exposed trail through the forest below Königbronnhof. Many old boundary stones with the Württemberg coat of arms line the path. The trail is often very moist, slippery, and occasionally quite steep. Next comes the next highlight of our hike – the Sommerrain nature reserve. Rare orchids grow here in early summer in this small-parceled area. The soil is very poor, and there is waterlogging. Several information boards provide information about the natural treasures here. The nature reserve has existed since 1972 and currently covers 2 hectares. Orchids, cotton grass, and pines are protected. Then we head towards Öschelbronn. From here you have a wonderful view over the entire Berglen. We see some of the 21 parts of town or hamlets and, with luck, even the Swabian Alb. Past the cemetery, we come into the town with the beautiful former town hall. Then it goes into the forest. Now we reach the hollow path Bürg. This dates from 1538 – 1544 and was established under Duke Ulrich. On this path, the quarried stones from the demolition of Altwinnenden Castle were transported to Schorndorf. A truly old path. Next, we reach Oberweiler. The view is also gigantic here: on the right is Bretzenacker - opposite Ödernhardt and in the valley below is Oppelsbohm. Now it’s only downhill towards our starting and finishing town of Oppelsbohm. Here we see that Berglen is a fruit-growing community. Apple and pear trees stand everywhere. In Oppelsbohm, a visit to the Mauritiuskirche from 1528 and the local history museum is worthwhile.

The start and finish point is the bus stop in the center of Oppelsbohm. From the bus stop, we walk downwards and turn right into Mozartstraße. At the first curve, we go straight into Distlerweg. Now we leave Oppelsbohm and the path steeply ascends. At the former press house, a narrow meadow path branches off to the left. On this hollow path, it goes steeply uphill. At the end of the path, we keep left towards the forest. Upon reaching the forest, turn right. Now we reach the hamlet of Drexelhof. Straight ahead the road leads us towards Necklinsberg. At the water house we turn left into the agricultural path. The field path ends at the road to Lindental – we follow this shortly until the junction. Here we go straight ahead until after the water house. There we turn right into the forest onto Steingehrenweg. After a short time we reach Pflästerlesweg. After about 100 m, a muddy path branches off to the right. We follow Brandhauweg to Königstein. At this crossroads, we take the 2nd path to the left. Near the parking lot, a narrow trail goes straight into the forest. We follow this. As soon as we reach the gravel main path, we turn slightly left onto Pionierweg. At the end, we come to the blockhouse. Exactly there we turn right onto an even narrower trail. After a short time, we come back to the main path. There we turn left. At the parking lot, we cross the state road directly and go straight into the opposite forest. Now keep left and we come to another highlight of our hike – the Sommerrain nature reserve. We go back the same way we came to the main road and cross it. Then we follow the paved path to the right towards Öschelbronn. Past the cemetery, it goes into Öschelbronn. Past the beautiful former town hall we reach the state road. There turn right shortly and then immediately turn left again (follow signs) and we leave Öschelbronn again. On the field path straight ahead to a junction. Here we go about 10 m straight ahead and admire the beautiful “stone men.” Then back and follow the path to the left towards Bürg or forest. After some time, we reach the main path and on the right you can see the large forest playground of Bürg. Here we turn left. At the first curve, we go straight and follow a narrow path. Now we reach the hollow path Bürg. At the end of the hollow path is an information board. There turn right and follow the main path. After coming out of the forest, Rettersburg lies before us down in the valley. We stay on the edge of the forest and walk straight ahead. It goes briefly into the forest again and on the horizon you can see the communication masts. Passing them, we reach the next part of town – Oberweiler. Immediately at the town sign, go left down into the valley. We now walk downhill towards Oppelsbohm. At the town entrance, we go left at the first houses onto the narrow path straight ahead. Now keep straight ahead and we come to the main intersection of Oppelsbohm. There on the left, our starting point, the bus stop, is located.

Equipment
For a relaxed and safe hike, we recommend comfortable, sturdy shoes with a good tread, weather-appropriate clothing (e.g. light jacket, sun protection), sufficient water, and a small snack. Sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and a small first-aid kit would also be good. For longer hikes, a power bank for your phone and downloading the route beforehand is recommended. Alternatively, paper map material is helpful.Localization
