Welcome to the wine country of Schweigen Rechtenbach
The village scenery, village life, everything is shaped by viticulture, which sets the rhythm for the whole year and involves everyone. Schweigen-Rechtenbach is connected to tradition, open to progress,
international and modern, yet has retained its peace and coziness.
Sonnenberg and 1st German Wine Educational Trail Schweigen-Rechtenbach
At Sonnenberg begins the 1st German Wine Educational Trail with interesting and informative facts about the history of viticulture over a length of 1 kilometer. On certain weekends from May to October, wine and snacks are offered at the shelter on Sonnenberg.
The German Wine Gate
The "German Wine Route" was inaugurated on October 18/19, 1935 in Schweigen. The provisional wooden wine gate erected on the occasion of the inauguration of the Wine Route was replaced in 1936 by a stone structure planned by architects Josef Peter and Karl Mittel, which was inaugurated on October 18, 1936.

General advice:
Especially in autumn, pay attention to the fact that fallen leaves can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rains, trees may still fall or branches may fall afterward. Particularly in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or ravines are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in some places. You should expect such path impairments when going on a hike. If you believe certain sections are not passable for you, you should avoid them.
NOTICE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting groups on this platform. However, there are situations where hiking trails are closed, and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please follow the instructions for your own safety.
Roadbook
From the German Wine Gate, our hike first leads us through the district of Rechtenbach to the Protestant church. Here we go through the vineyards with magnificent views over the Rhine Plain into the Palatinate Forest. After a longer ascent, we stand at the foot of Steinbühl, which we circle on quiet paths and trails. From the forest edge to here, our tour runs parallel to the "Chapel Pilgrim Path."
We hike above the Rechtenbach valley towards the sports field, then downhill towards the landscape pond. Now past the Rechtenbach cemetery up to the festival area at the "small Wine Gate on Sonnenberg." The rest of the route takes us via parts of the wine trail through Berg- and Längelsstraße back to the starting point.

Equipment
For our hiking tours, we recommend the following equipment as standard:
Sturdy footwear
Weather-appropriate clothing
Sun and rain protection
A sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not always places to eat or shop available or open.
Even though the paths are consistently well marked, it is advisable for safety reasons to always carry a suitable hiking map, so that you can quickly find a safe area, for example, in case of a thunderstorm or an emergency.
