Hike around the Adelberg. Wonderful panorama of the town Annweiler am Trifels and the castle trio Trifels, Anebos, and Münz, as well as the Asselstein.
The route starts in Annweiler am Trifels at the Catholic Church. We cross the railway tracks, turn right, and at the next junction go up the zigzag path towards Turnerheim. We pass it and continue uphill following the crown marking. The first viewpoint is the Krappenfelsen with a beautiful view over the Queichtal.
From the Krappenfelsen, we cross the road and follow the path towards Holderquelle. There is a shelter and a nice resting and picnic spot. At the next junction, a detour to the Jungpfalzhütte is recommended. Here you have a great view, a playground for children, and on weekends you can enjoy Palatinate specialties.
At the junction, we hike straight ahead towards Sommerfelsen. There is another impressive viewpoint with views of Trifels, Anebos, and Münz before we return a bit on the side path and descend towards Annweiler.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
- Always behave considerately, friendly, and respectfully towards everyone you meet on the way.
- Respect nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths. Try to avoid excessive noise and leave the forest before dusk.
- Take a garbage bag with you and take your waste back home.
- Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Other visitors and animals will thank you.
- For your own safety, observe all path closures, including on weekends.
- Park only in designated parking spaces. Leave space for emergency vehicles and agricultural machinery.
- Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.
Author’s recommendation
Those who want to make a detour to the Trifels can follow the Palatinate Wine Trail from the starting point through Annweiler up to the castle. A route of about 3 km.

Safety information
General information:
Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground may conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may drop afterward. With adverse weather conditions, natural paths may become muddy and slippery. Not all rocks or escarpments are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in some areas. You should expect path impairments of this nature when hiking. If you consider certain path sections impassable for you, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are blocked, and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please observe the instructions for your own safety.

Roadbook
The route starts at the Catholic Church in Annweiler am Trifels, near the train station, and then turns into the narrow Turnerweg and crosses the railway tracks via a bridge. Directly after the bridge, the path leads to the right, and at the next junction turns left up the zigzag path to the Turnerheim of the Palatinate Gymnastics Association. At the Turnerheim, a detour to the Schützenhaus inn is also possible (approx. 300m).
The Kaiser-Friedrich-Weg goes straight on at the Turnerheim on the Grimmeisenpfad, parallel to the Palatinate Wine Trail, uphill to the Krappenfelsen. Here you have a wonderful view of the Queichtal, Annweiler, the Trifels castle, and the Asselstein. From the Krappenfelsen, the path continues uphill, crossing a large crossroads, on a narrow path to the Holderquelle spring. There is a nice resting place with a shelter here. A few meters further at the next large crossroads, a detour to the Jungpfalzhütte is possible (approx. 400 m), which is open on weekends.
The Kaiser-Friedrich-Weg turns left at the large crossroads and leads mostly flat to the Sommerfelsen on the Adelberg. The Sommerfelsen can be reached via a side path westwards in 500 m. From the Sommerfelsen, you have another great view of Annweiler and the Trifels. A shelter also offers a resting place here. The path then winds steadily downhill to Turnerheimstraße. You have to follow the road uphill for a short distance until you can turn right into Scheffel-Weg, which leads back to the railway tracks and the starting point at the Catholic Church.
Refreshment opportunities:
At the Turnerheim, a small detour to the Schützenhaus is possible. On weekends, the way to the Jungpfalzhütte is worthwhile. Both refreshment options are about 500 m from the main path. Or you can relax at the end of the route in the town center of Annweiler: here you will find restaurants, inns, wine taverns, cafés, and snack bars.
