It is no coincidence that the Gornergrat is one of Switzerland's top excursion destinations. This short circular route lets you experience the magic around the Gornergrat as well as the impressive panorama.
The short high-altitude hiking trail starts and ends at the Gornergrat viewing platform and runs behind the Gornergrat peak. With some luck, wild ibex can be seen.
- 33 min ride with the Gornergrat railway from Zermatt to Gornergrat
- Below the viewing platform: 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat (highest hotel in the Swiss Alps)
Author’s recommendation
At the viewing platform, the start and end point of the high-altitude hiking trail, free Viscopes are available. These are viewing telescopes that precisely display desired information such as mountain and place names or trail markings in the viewer's field of vision. Also worth a visit: the multimedia experience "Zooom the Matterhorn".
