Selected alternatives for you
You walk through vineyards along the reed belt of Neusiedler See - one of the largest steppe lakes in Europe with unique fauna and flora - to Breitenbrunn at the foot of the Leitha Mountains.

From Parndorf, as already on the first stage, you continue along field paths and through wind farms towards Neusiedler See. Shortly before Neusiedl am See (131 m) you reach the first vineyards of Burgenland. From the district capital, which offers a lot especially for summer vacationers (lakeside bathing, sailing, surfing), you continue through vineyards and along the reed belt first to Winden am See (124 m) and then to Breitenbrunn (136 m, notable watchtower from the 13th century housing the local history museum), the day's destination of this second stage on the 02er trail.

Especially fit hikers can also combine this stage with the first (that would be a total of 44 km through easy, flat terrain).

    Author’s recommendation

Ambitious hikers who want to combine this rather short stage with the first in one day and then continue with crossing the Leitha Mountains (stage 3) should make sure to really reach Breitenbrunn. Otherwise, the already very long and physically demanding third stage, with no accommodation and (almost) no places to stop for refreshment, will be extended.
