Rail & Trail "Slow Trail - via Wernberg Monastery through the Drauschleife"
A wonderful hiking trail allows us to immerse ourselves in the wonderful mixed forest of the steep flanks of the Drauschlinge. Passing monastic fish ponds, the trail descends through a wild and romantic ditch, then follows the forest flank along the bank. At the water's edge, a lounger invites you to enjoy the natural idyll. Afterwards, a short, steep climb invigorates the heart before a stylish viewing platform opens up the view of the Drauschleife: Within a few hundred meters, the Drau changes direction by 180°! Today it is a protected oxbow lake and natural paradise where, with a bit of luck, kingfishers with their magnificent plumage can be observed. The descent along the root path requires a little more concentration before we continue our relaxed walk along the reed-lined riverside path to the "regular" Drau. By the way: the foundations after the railroad bridge in the water date back to 1864 and are imperial and royal relics of the first southern railroad line. At the confluence of the Drau, a biotope marks the end of this natural paradise and the Slow Trail.
After the abundance of natural impressions, the continuation of the trail along the gallery woods of the Drau with occasional views of the water provides relaxation. The final highlight is the Stone Bench - a lounger with magnificent views of the Drau, Mittagskogel and Karawanken! Passing the Föderlach gravel pond with its attractive adventure pool, we return to Föderlach station.
