Rail & Trail "Rosenkogel - Lonely summit tour in the Karawanken"
At the small Bärental hydroelectric power station, we branch off into the hidden forest valley of the narrow Bärengraben. We hike leisurely uphill on forest roads through atmospheric mixed forests, accompanied at times by the murmur of the torrent. At the head of the valley, rock faces and a cascading waterfall exude alpine flair. After a balancing act over the stream, we climb up the steep forest flank on wonderful paths. Short forest roads allow us to take a welcome breather. The rustic mixed forest of spruce, fir and beech makes your heart beat faster. Our summit circuit begins at the idyllic Zollhütte (closed).
We climb to the right in a wide arc through the forest flank of the Grabenkessel up to its ridge and follow it to the grassy summit of the Kleiner Frauenkogel (1,754 m). Congratulations! To the north, there is a magnificent panoramic view over Carinthia, while the basin offers a harmonious alpine landscape. At the upper edge of the basin, we walk in a wide arc over to the Rosenkogel (1,776 m), our highest point. Congratulations! Now on the border ridge of the Karawanken, the view sweeps south to the imposing peaks of Slovenia: to Triglav & Co. simply magnificent.
The descent begins over a panoramic ridge down to the Rosenbachsattel (1,587 m). There we leave the border ridge and descend the steep flank of the idyllic basin. The romantic alpine pasture with a small puddle of water invites you to linger. Passing the Roschitzahütte (alpine hut; not regularly staffed), we descend to the Zollhütte and along the ascent route back to the starting point.
