Rail & Trail "Petzen - summit assault on the easternmost 2,000 m peak in the Karawanken"
This is followed by a magnificent panoramic crossing along the steep northern slopes: first up to the Knieps (2,109 m), then gently up and down to the Feistritzer Spitze (2,113 m), the highest point of the tour. Congratulations! You have the feeling of hiking directly into the sheer endless 360° panorama - a sublime king-of-the-world feeling sets in.
The descent follows alpine, sometimes steep paths: first through the mountain pine fields of a ridge, then over its steep forest flank down into the eternal mountain forests of the lonely summit basin. A short ascent brings us back to the ridge of the mountain station, where the reservoir and restaurants invite us to relax. Finally, we take the cable car back down to the valley.
Author’s recommendation
For connoisseurs: As Bleiburg train station is a little further away from the valley station of the Petzen cable car, we recommend that leisure hikers take the ÖBB train station shuttle to cover this distance in comfort. For information see "Public transport".
For passionate train hikers: There is the following foot connection: See here.
