Maria Rain is situated in an elevated position on a saddle of the Sattnitz ridge, an ancient transition from the Klagenfurt basin to the Rosental valley. From Maria Rain train station, we take a gentle stroll up and down through the contemporary clustered village. The lively rural idyll and magnificent Karawanken scenery are fascinating. We soon enter the rustic mixed mountain forest on the steep flank of the ridge. Beautiful forest paths are a delight - first a little downhill, then gently uphill. At the detour to the 1st deep view, the forest path turns into a steep, root-covered path towards the end - surefootedness and a head for heights are required here! The destination: a vertically sloping rock balcony, the 1st Rosental-Tiefblick! Ferlach, Waidischbach estuary ... lie at our feet. After a short walk back, we head uphill again on easy forest paths. As we leave the forest, we reach the Kaiserhütte viewing platform, the 2nd Rosental-Tiefblick! Summit flair, magnificent views down into the vastness of the Rosental valley ... an insider tip! We walk leisurely downhill through a residential area past the popular Maria Rain pilgrimage church back to Maria Rain station.
Author’s recommendation
The Sattnitz ridge consists of conglomerate. This can be seen very clearly at the "Ewiger Regen" natural monument at reservoir level. Depending on the rainfall, several seepage springs create a wall of drops. Inspiration for another visit?

The last section of the DESCENT to the first Rosental-Tiefblick (vertical rock balcony) is on a narrow, steep and root-covered path. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required here. The DIRECT ROUND via the Kaiserhütte is classified as easy throughout.Roadbook
