Rail & Trail "Liesersteig, Millstätter See & Seerücken"
The route then leads through new districts into the narrow forest valley of the Lieser river. The approximately 2 km long breakthrough divides the Millstätter Seerücken. The river has the character of an alpine wild river. We follow the rushing white water upstream through beautiful mixed forest on an alpine, partly rope-insured path - surefootedness and a head for heights are required! On the opposite bank, the main road bears witness to the civilizing achievements of the region. After the highway bridge, we briefly follow the main road, then walk along the idyllic Seebach stream through the green residential area of Seeboden. At the outflow of Lake Millstätter See, a short detour to the bridge is worthwhile. The entire ensemble - the dreamy lake view, the artistic park of the Winkler rose garden and the rustic wooden house of the fishing museum - exudes pure summertime romance. Be sure to take a break and enjoy!
Now the return journey begins over the wooded Millstätter Seerücken. While still in the settlement area, wonderful views of Lake Millstatt, the Millstätter Alpe and the Reißeck group open up. Via a narrow forest road and natural paths, we climb up the forest flank in a relaxed manner. An enjoyable forest hike begins at the forest ridge up to the forest oasis of St. Wolfgang - our highest point! The picturesque church of St. Wolfgang, the rural idyll and the sublime view of the Goldeck will make your heart beat faster.
On steeper forest paths, we descend the ridge directly into the urban area of Spittal an der Drau. We cross the Lieser once again and reach our starting point through the historic town center.
