Right at Ledenitzen station, an impressive view opens up of the hidden Ferlacher Spitze (1,742 m), the forest-rock pyramid to the left of the Mittagskogel - our destination!

To warm up, we follow the road on a footpath, past lush meadows and rural settlements, to the southern edge of the valley plain. Now we immerse ourselves in the deep, rustic mountain forests of the Karawanken. After a flat forest path, accompanied by the lively sound of a stream, a wonderful forest path leads us steeply up to the hidden meadow plateau of the Dobernigg farmstead. We continue through the mixed forest, gently ascending on forest roads until we reach the turn-off to Kopein. There we hike over to the wonderful meadow plateau of the Kopein farmstead - a sublime forest oasis full of rural idyll at the foot of our summit. Here, the popular traditional Sticker inn invites you to enjoy a tasty snack before the mountain rises steeply.

Now we cross the steep forest flank: the gravel road climbs quickly and hidden views in the rustic Karawanken forest make us aware of the height we have gained. Via a historic forest path, we finally reach the small, dreamy alpine plateau at the Roßalmhütte (self-catering hut) - perfect for a short, relaxing break.

We head up to the summit ridge, first through a steep forest ditch, then over the steep flank of the ridge - both crisp climbs. We then cross the steep gravel field of the summit pyramid, descending slightly, and reach the rustic Bertahütte (1,567 m), where hearty mountain cuisine and a fantastic view of the Mittagskogel await us.

As a final detour, a steep forest path leads us up to the summit of the Ferlacher Spitze (1,742 m). Congratulations! Just a few meters above the tree line, the panoramic view and the magnificent views of the Carinthian lake mosaic are a delight. A real treat!

From the Berta hut, we descend on a steep forest path through the unspoilt spruce and beech forest along the flank of the Worounitzabach trench. Later, a leisurely forest path leads us lower down until we meet up with our ascent route again and follow it back to the starting point. The tour ends tired but happy!
