Rail & Trail "A Drautal delicacy - hidden natural idyll & Irschner Burgbichl"
At Oberdrauburg railroad station, head west towards Draubrücke bridge, keep left before the bridge and immediately turn left again into a small residential area, after the houses through meadows in an easterly direction to Irschen. After a short ascent on a goods road, the trail descends to a stream crossing. From here, descend slightly to the hamlet of "Pflügen" and the last stretch on a paved road to the Drau bridge. Shortly before the bridge, go straight on across a dried-up stream bed, with the information boards for the Burgbichl mountain in view on the left-hand side. From here, follow the marked path to Burgbichl. The first section runs through a protected juniper grove. Then you cross the stream bed again. A newly created narrow path leads to the start of the excavation. The bends are steep. Keep right at the so-called "Toranlage" and follow the excavation site upwards and around it. When you reach the upper church, you have reached the highest point here. Follow the narrow path to the lower church and the gate. From here, follow the same path back to the Drau bridge. The train station is located a little after the Drau bridge on the right-hand side.
Author’s recommendation
Stein Castle - if time and fitness allow, you can also plan a climb along a "Way of the Cross" to Stein Castle. The castle itself is not open to the public - but the place is definitely worth a visit.
