The circular hiking trail runs for 13.9 km around the Hesselbach valley near Oberkirch, passing the Geigerskopfturm with wonderful views into the Rhine valley and to the opposite Vosges mountains.
The Brennersteig invites you on a scenic but also culinary discovery tour past various distilleries in the Renchtal. The Oberkirch Brennersteig is especially recommended during blossom time.
From the delicious fruits of the region, many high-quality fine brandies are distilled, including cherry brandy, plum and mirabelle brandy, raspberry spirit, Williams pear and topinambur. Around 796 home distilleries are registered in Oberkirch alone — making Oberkirch the distilling capital of Europe.
Numerous distilleries along the route invite you to sample their products — there are many places to stop along the way. Distillery tours including product tastings are available upon request.
A detour to the Renchtalblick can be incorporated into the Brennersteig via a zigzag path above the Fießhof.

You start at the Hesselbach hiking car park and follow the village road to Ödsbach. After the first property, the path runs right up through meadows to the forest edge, which you follow to the left. You then reach the Halter distillery. From there, you walk along the schnapps educational trail uphill into the vineyards and left through orchards to the Schweiger winery. Afterwards, you follow the access road downhill until the path turns right into meadows and immediately afterward left into a forest. After a short section of forest and meadow, you circle a pond and reach the park of the forest hotel „Grüner Baum“. Up through the forest, you come to the Heuberger Eck. Continuing on the Kandel Höhenweg, a steep ascent follows after Heimeichele square (2 variants possible). After about one third of the total distance, the mountain hut invites you to take a break. From the hiking car park Bergle, the path continues on a wide forest road, passing the Hesselbacher Allmend. At this junction, you continue straight in the direction of the Bildeiche. Once there, take the right turn at the junction and reach the enclosure of the Silva estate, a pig breeding farm with extensive free-range husbandry. At the enclosure, the path branches off to the left onto a narrow path. After the Schafhof Höhe , you go steeply uphill about 800 m to the Geigerskopfturm. Then you hike slightly downhill out of the forest on a narrow path. There, a meadow path leads you through orchards to the Buseckhof. After the farm, you go uphill through the vineyards to the Fritscheneck via Buseck and then down through the forest to Maieckle. The path crosses a forest and leads you past the Köbelesberghof to the Albersbacher Höhe. From here you go steeply downhill, through vineyards and orchards to the Fießhof. From there you continue on the village road, past the guesthouse „Hesselbacher Hof“, then back to the hiking car park. Alternatively, you can also descend from the Albersbacher Höhe via the „Zick-Zack-Weg“ to the hotel restaurant „Renchtalblick“ and then hike back to the starting point.
