By bike, you travel through the culinary region "Gurktaler air-cured bacon" – a culinary rarity unique throughout Austria.
Passing numerous culinary delights, the route leads to Gurk Cathedral – the tomb of Saint Hemma and a worthwhile destination for many pilgrims along the Hemma pilgrimage routes. The beautiful Carinthian Straßburg lies directly on the way of this wonderful bike route – and those who want can experience true narrow-gauge romance with the Gurktal Museum Railway.

The route starts at the forecourt of Treibach-Althofen station. The old town layout of Althofen with the Auer-von-Welsbach Museum is also accessible by bike for sporty people.
From the forecourt of the station, the route leads right and after about 300 meters sharply turns left out of town on the R7B “Kappelerweg” towards Mölbling. Just before Mölbling, you pass under the expressway before the route turns right onto the R7 “Friesacherweg” in Mölbling. Parallel to the expressway, the route first goes on side streets, then on the cycle path to Pöckstein-Zwischenwässern. A tip for connoisseurs: travel the section between Althofen and Pöckstein-Zwischenwässern by the Gurktal Museum Railway and enjoy genuine narrow-gauge romance, or visit the Hirt brewery, which is accessible via the R7! Shortly after Pöckstein-Zwischenwässern, before the bridge over the Gurk, you leave the “R7 Friesacherweg” and now follow the R5B “Gurkweg” into the beautiful Gurk valley. Near the Gurk, you cycle away from the road on a beautiful bike path before it runs parallel to the main road for about 6 km to Carinthian Straßburg. Straßburg can be seen from afar on the distinctive elevation. A stairway leads to the museums at Straßburg Castle.
