Katinkulla winter cycling route to the lean-to shelter 11 km, Vuokatti
The Katinkulla winter cycling route is the easiest of Vuokatti's winter cycling routes. The start and end are cycled through the park-like scenery of the golf course, but the route also takes you through forest and meadows to the Kaarreniemi lean-to shelter by Lake Nuasjärvi.
The Katinkulla Fatbike trail has no major elevation changes, except for a couple of small rises. It winds through the fairways of the golf course and between forest islands on rolling pine heath. A challenge for novice winter cyclists is that the route is mainly ridden behind a snowmobile pulling a sled and so it is not very wide. Partly the route is also plowed wider as a trail.
The entire Fatbike trail route is 11 km long, but it can be shortened a bit at some points by taking shortcuts, or for example by skipping Kaarreniemi.

The Katinkulla winter cycling route is marked on the terrain with Fatbike trail signs and plowing markers. Be careful at intersections so you don't get lost on ski tracks or other snowmobile trails.
The winter cycling route starts from the corner of the Tenetti golf course kiosk. At first, you ride winding through the rolling terrain of the golf course until you reach the straight route section along the edge of the pine forest. At the end of the straight is the intersection of the 5 and 10 km loops of the Katinkulla sunny ski track. The winter cycling route continues along the 10 km track until it turns into the forest towards the Kaarreniemi lean-to shelter.
From here begins a 1.2 km round-trip spur route to the lean-to shelter. The winter path passes through forests and meadows to Kaarreniemi, where there is a lean-to with beautiful views towards Lake Nuasjärvi.
When returning from the Kaarreniemi spur, the winter cycling route winds again along the fairways and intermediate woods of the Katinkulla golf courses back to the starting point.

Equipment
The route is designed for fatbikes.
Fatbikes, either electric-assisted or unassisted, are rented for example by Vuokatti SkiService.
On winter trips, remember to dress in layers.
When cycling in the cold, the cold usually creeps first into the fingers and toes. So it is advisable to equip yourself with thicker mittens and proper winter shoes. And if you fall off the bike into deep snow, gaiters and snow locks on pants and jacket are a nice addition.
Also, a helmet is an important piece of equipment for winter cycling!
