If you feel like setting out on an easy cycling route along the Váh, then the route from Komoča to Komárno is an ideal choice. We recommend starting this nice trip by staying at the campsite in Komoča with a beautiful beach on the bank of the Váh river.

The cycling route marked in green, with a length of 27.6 km and an ascent of only 20 meters, begins in the village of Komoča near the confluence of the rivers Nitra and Váh. At the beginning, we bypass the mentioned camp and cycle along the Maria Road (Kolárovo - Nové Zámky) into the town of Kolárovo, where we should not miss the tour of the water mill, which is reached by the longest wooden bridge in all of Europe. From Kolárovo, we return over the bridge back to the green cycling route, with the Váh river and the surrounding floodplain forests constantly accompanying us. We follow the same direction as the Váh Cycle Highway, which runs along the other side of the Váh.

The pleasant road leads us past Veľká Gúta, Szenáš meadows, the village of Vrbová nad Váhom, up to the Old Nitra river, which flows into the Váh at this point. It is important to mention the adjacent National Nature Reserve Apálsky Island, which covers an area of 86 hectares. The protected subjects are willow-poplar, lowland floodplain forests and, at the same time, rare and endangered wetland species of fauna and flora. Beyond the Old Nitra, we cross the railway and the route officially ends on the main road at the Vážsky Bridge, Sistag bus stop.

    Author’s recommendation

Near the official endpoint of the cycling route, we recommend visiting the anti-Turkish fortress of Komárno, the Roman military camp, or the very famous Courtyard of Europe with architectural elements from all the states of the old continent.
