Wine-growing route

In Franconia and Baden, the wine is bottled in bulbous-shaped “Bocksbeutels.” Cozy taverns, wine cooperatives, and wine pubs invite you to taste regional wines as well as wines from the Tauber edition or to buy directly from the winemaker.

At the edge of the Rye Forest between Bad Mergentheim and Markelsheim, there is the wine educational trail with display panels about viticulture.

Weikersheim and Schäftersheim also belong to the Württemberg wine region; however, Tauberrettersheim already belongs to Franconia. The Tauber bridge in Tauberrettersheim was designed by the well-known Baroque master builder Balthasar Neumann. Worth seeing is the half-timbered house from 1579 in Grünsfeld.

In Gerlachsheim, the cycle path leads over the Grünbach bridge with Baroque saint figures. There is also the former Premonstratensian monastery (founded between 1196 and 1207 as a Benedictine monastery) with a Baroque church (1723 - 1770) and a Baroque Marian column (1751).

In Lauda, you pass through the old town and the Upper Gate (1496) and travel through the wine towns Oberlauda, Ober- and Unterschüpf, as well as Beckstein back to Bad Mergentheim.
