Posavje
This is an easy circular family route starting at Terme Čatež, leading us past the confluence of the Sava and Krka rivers and Brežiško Lake.
The route starts at Terme Čatež, the largest thermal complex in this part of Europe. The route can also be shortened by starting the water route at the motorhome parking (PZA) in Brežice.
The water route connects water sources and bodies, from the thermal spring at Terme Čatež to the confluence of our longest river, the Sava, and its longest right tributary, the Krka. We pass by the Brežice Hydroelectric Plant and the second largest reservoir in Slovenia – Brežiško Lake. Locals call it the Brežiško Sea due to its size. Here you can observe a rich wildlife, including swans, ducks, and various birds. Along the way, you can also see various historical landmarks – the iron bridge over the Sava and Krka, Brežice Castle housing the Posavje Museum Brežice, and the old town center of Brežice.

Roadbook
The starting point of the route is at Terme Čatež, from where we head past the Urška pastry shop towards the Sava embankment and turn left at the end of the road, riding parallel to the embankment. When we reach the settlement, we turn right onto the main road. At the traffic light, we turn right and cross the Sava bridge, where on the left you can see the confluence of the Sava and Krka rivers. When we reach the roundabout, we follow the sign to Brežice – south, taking the third exit. We pass by the town park, and when we see Brežice Castle, we turn left at the intersection and immediately right after the castle. We descend and reach a gravel road. Here, there is pleasant shade in the summer; we ride across the field called Vrbina, with Brežiško Lake on the left. We cycle along the gravel road, turn right after 400 meters, and continue straight to the paved road and Lenartova pot street. We turn right and ride past the Church of St. Lenart. A few meters ahead is the Vimpolšek tourist farm, where, with prior reservation, you can stop for a tasty meal of locally produced food. We continue straight, and on the main road turn right to return towards the town center. The route takes us past the stadium, Brežice hospital, and then we follow the water tower. We turn onto Bizeljska Road, where the municipality is on the left side; we turn left, and in front of us stands Brežice Castle, home to the Posavje Museum Brežice. Then we return the same way, crossing the bridge to the village of Čatež ob Savi. At the traffic light, we turn left and can continue the route to the left, riding parallel to the embankment as at the beginning, or continue straight on the main road to Terme Čatež.
