Roadbook
Starting at the Anklam Gate of the town of Usedom, which was presumably built around 1450, the path leads you to "De Spinndönz," only a few meters away. "De Spinndönz" is a combination of a natural goods store and workshop, where you can purchase knitwear, fur products, and natural materials made according to old customs. Directly opposite this special store is the St. Mary's Church, first mentioned in 1337.
Once you have left the town of Usedom behind, you will ride through a mixed forest on the way to Stolpe, enchanting you with impressive trees. Follow the signs pointing you toward Welzin. Welzin is a small village mainly known for the only island cheese dairy on Usedom. During a visit, you can learn a lot about cheese production or take a sample with you for the road.
The next stop on the route is in Stolpe. Opposite the bakery "Langhoff," which has been serving its guests homemade pastries since GDR times, is Stolpe Castle. It was once built by the Count of Schwerin and now welcomes many guests for tours.
On the way to the wisent enclosure in Prätenow, you pass "Verbena," a farm shop with an adjoining herb garden where regular herb walks take place. Learn a lot about herbs, berries, roots, and their health-promoting effects on the human body.
Shortly before you reach Prätenow, a detour to the wisent enclosure is worthwhile. The wisent, which was threatened with extinction until a few years ago, has been established and bred here since 2004. Experience the kings of the forest (almost) up close.
Now the route leads you through Dargen, Kachlin, and Katschow, then past Mellenthin airfield, mainly approved for ultralight aircraft, model airplanes, and parachuting activities, into the town of Mellenthin – here the route ends.
