Tour de Saarlouis

The recommended start of the tour is the "Große Markt" in Saarlouis. Here, at the parade ground of the former baroque fortress city of the "Sun King" Ludwig XIV, you get a first impression of its fascinating history. After passing the "Französische Straße" with its numerous shops and the "Kleine Markt", you will soon leave the city flair of the inner city behind and head in the same direction along the "Saarlouiser Runde" towards the rural Lisdorf with its extensive fields of the "Lisdorfer Aue".

After a short ride through the village, we enjoy the bustle on and along the Saar on a small section up to the Lisdorf lock and finally reach, after a small, gentle climb along the forest and field passages of the district "Holzmühle", the idyllic recreational area around the "Taffingsweiher" in the Picard district, which can also be circled. Here we also reconnect with the "Saarlouiser Runde".

Through the beautiful landscape of the Taffing valley, after a while one reaches the extensive fields of the village "Beaumarais", from where you have an impressive view of the Teufelsburg Castle and the extensive fields. The well-known premium hiking trail "Vauban-Steig", named after the famous master builder of the fortress city Saarlouis, Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, also runs here. The further route of the tour leads through Beaumarais into the municipality of Wallerfangen. Past the tranquil "Adolphshöhe" with the Historical Museum Wallerfangen, it goes to the "Fabrikplatz" (location of the town hall), the central market square of Wallerfangen. Rested, we find ourselves again on the Saar after a few minutes, where we enjoy the scenic impressions on a leisurely ride on the Saar cycle path towards Saarlouis. This section of the tour again connects to the "Saarlouiser Runde".

On an idyllic section along the old arm of the Saar with a charming city garden (6), a place of peace and relaxation, we finally reach the Saarlouis city center again and the Große Markt (1). Experiencing the typical savoir vivre of the city, our "Tour de Saarlouis" can comfortably end in one of the countless pubs in the old town.
