This long section cuts through the wild landscape of the Northern Bakony. From the Mezőföld plain, rich in thermal springs, we climb up to the earthy, gravel-covered forest roads of the Eastern Bakony. After winding our way, we can admire Zirc, famous for its Cistercian Abbey, halfway through our tour. Then we cross the High Bakony, once inhabited by hermits, and gradually leave the vast Bakony forest behind, opening up to the plain of the Marcal basin where thermal baths await us again.
Author’s recommendation
If time permits, it is worth taking a small pedestrian detour to visit the Roman Bath gorge before Bakonynána.
