The Alz originates from Lake Chiemsee, on its northern shore in Seebruck where the cycle path begins: In summer, the river is usually populated by numerous water sports enthusiasts up to Truchtlaching. In Altenmarkt on the Alz, the "Alz Waterfalls" are proudly claimed and high above the town towers the impressive former Augustinian canon monastery Baumburg Monastery. The route passes through Trostberg and Feichten to Garching on the Alz, where the "Janischsiedlung," built in the 1920s and a listed monument, is counted among the most beautiful garden cities in Germany. Other worthwhile detours include the geological organ formations at Oberschroffen in Unterneukirchen and the Klosterau forest educational trail in Mehring, before the Alz flows into the Inn at Marktl, the birthplace of Pope emeritus Benedict XVI.
